The attic of Officers’ Club was one of the areas the Navy adapted to function as a prison. In this place, the detained-disappeared endured inhumane living conditions: overcrowding, lack of air, strict control and co-existence with torture sessions that took place right next to them. On occasion, the Task Force lended the area to other repressive forces. For that reason, victims were detained here by the Air Force, the Army and the Naval Intelligence Service, the agency specialized in gathering information.
The sounds from the outside are amplified in this place, which is why you can hear the sound of the passing train, the airplanes landing on the tarmac, the cars moving on Avenida del Libertador, the soccer games played at the River and Defensores de Belgrano stadiums nearby, and the students from the neighboring Raggio School. Thanks to these sounds, the detained-disappeared, who remained constantly hooded, were able to know they were being held at ESMA.
