The word ‘transfer’ was a euphemism used by the Armed Forces to describe the murder of the detained-disappeared. The methodology used at ESMA to commit these massive crimes would later be known as the Death Flights.
According to the testimonies, we now know that people were taken down from the imprisonment areas on the third floor and brought to the infirmary in the Basement. They were given a sedative called Pentothal that made them drowsy. Then, they were taken out of the Basement and driven to the Airfield and other military bases. They were boarded onto the aircrafts from which they were thrown, still alive, into either the River Plate or the sea.
Serapeum
Inspired by an ancient Egyptian structure built to honor the fallen heroes, the Serapeum is a glass-encased space that covers the same path of the ‘transfers’ leading to the Death Flights.
