On November 17, 2020, and with the presence of the Secretary of Human Rights Horacio Pietragalla Corti, the work team of the ESMA Museum and Site of Memory headed by its Executive Director Alejandra Naftal presented the progress in the Museum’s candidacy for the UNESCO World Heritage List to the Board of Human Rights Organizations.
“This meeting with the organizations formalizes the work that we have been doing with the candidacy of the ESMA Museum and Site of Memory for UNESCO. The fact that Argentina could be a worldwide focal point of Memory is well deserved considering the almost unique process that took place in our country regarding Justice. We must turn that fight into a memory of the world,” Pietragalla Corti welcomed.
For its part, Naftal highlighted that “participation, support and a permanent dialogue with Human Rights Organizations are fundamental because their fight of more than forty years is the reason we have the policies of Memory, Truth and Justice that support this candidacy”. As part of the work team, Mauricio Cohen Salama, General Coordinator of the Work Plan, and Mayki Gorosito, International Cooperation Coordinator of the application, joined the Executive Director in the presentation.
Participants included officials from Mother of Plaza de Mayo – Founders, Grandmothers of Plaza de Mayo, Children for Identity and Justice Against Oblivion and Silence (H.I.J.O.S.), the Ecumenical Movement for Human Rights (MEDH), the Center for Legal and Social Studies (CELS), the Permanent Assembly for Human Rights (APDH), the APDH La Matanza, the North Area Commission, Relatives and Companions of the Santa Cruz 12, Buena Memoria Civil Association, and Relatives of the Disappeared and Detained for Political Reasons.
